Mixing DPH and Caffeine
Mixing DPH and Caffeine calls for caution — TripSit rates this combination “Caution.” Low risk never means safe.
Caffeine as a stimulant may mask some negative side effects of DPH, leading to delusions of sobriety, which has additional concerns in states of delirium. The combination of stimulants will increase strain on the heart and may cause some physical discomfort, and has the chance to cause cardiovascular issues such as complex tachycardia. The combination may increase anxiety levels and risks of thought loops at higher dosages, in addition to increasing each other's negative side effects. Medical dosages are reported to not be a concern.
DPH (also known as Benadryl) and Caffeine.
What to do
- Even for lower-risk pairs, the safest choice is not to mix — and never to use alone.
- Start with much less than usual and go slow — you can always take more, never less.
- Never use alone. If you do, call 1-800-484-3731 (Never Use Alone) so someone can send help if you stop responding.
